Who is Kayura?
~ SPOILER ALERT! ~
Kayura is a descendent of "The Ancient". Hundreds of years ago, Talpa (Arago) destroyed The Ancient's clan, finding a young Kayura, whom he then raised to be one of his evil warriors. As a result, she became very powerful. Talpa controls her through an amulet she wears around her neck.
When she is sent after the Ronins, she nearly defeats and captures them several times. But, when Anubis (Shuten) is around, the presence of The Ancient's staff causes her great discomfort (as if trying to drive Talpa's influence from her); this also happens when Ryo summons the Armor of Inferno.
Later in the series, when the amulet is destroyed, Kayura slowly regains her memories from the past and starts to slip from Talpa's control. Talpa then orders Banamon (spiritual lackey) to possess her so she will fight the Ronins again.
At a crucial stage in the final battle, Anubis sacrifices himself to purify her of the possession, therefore completely freeing her from dark control.
In the end, Kayura helps the Ronins defeat Talpa and his forces. Afterwards, she takes it upon herself to carry on the will of The Ancient.
Why make a fanlisting?
When Kayura first appeared in the series, I thought "Finally! A female fighter!". Don't get me wrong, I like the Ronins too, but I find it doesn't hurt to add a strong, female warrior to the mix. And Kayura is just that.
She's confident, cunning, and very skilled in battle. The fact that she almost defeated the Ronins, by herself, when the other Warlords couldn't, just goes to show you how strong she is.
You know right off that she's special, given she is the only female warrior in the series and has ties to The Ancient. Which is why I never really thought of her as a "bad guy", despite the whole "working-for-evil" thing, which we now know she was brainwashed into.
Kayura comes across as a steadfast and appealing character who is finally freed and finds herself at the end of the series. I admire her for her strength, conviction, and combat prowess.
She's just so cool! ^_^
